Real Madrid Aims for 14th Spanish Super Cup Title in Final Showdown with Barcelona

Real Madrid
will pursue a record-equalling 14th Spanish Super Cup title in the final against Barcelona after a decisive 3-0 victory over Mallorca in the semi-finals, thanks to second-half goals from Jude Bellingham and Rodrygo.

England midfielder Bellingham broke the deadlock in the 63rd minute with a low shot into the center of the goal. Mallorca defender Martin Valjent then inadvertently doubled Real's lead with an own goal in stoppage time, followed by Rodrygo's close-range strike.

The Spanish champions will face Barcelona for the trophy on Sunday, after Barca secured a 2-0 win over Athletic Bilbao on Wednesday, with goals from Gavi and Lamine Yamal.

This marks the third consecutive meeting between Barcelona and Real in the competition's final, with Carlo Ancelotti's side winning last year, while Barcelona last lifted the trophy in 2023. Barcelona currently holds the record with 14 titles, while Real Madrid has 13.

Mallorca, last year's Copa del Rey finalists, defended well against Real, with the teams going into halftime scoreless after early attempts from Lucas Vazquez and Bellingham were saved by Mallorca keeper Dominik Greif.

Bellingham finally found a way past the Slovakian keeper in the 63rd minute following an excellent team play. Rodrygo hit the post with a header, and Kylian Mbappe's follow-up was brilliantly denied by Greif before Bellingham opened the scoring.

Real continued to press for more goals but didn’t find the net again until Valjent accidentally sent the ball into his own goal two minutes into stoppage time while trying to block a shot from Real substitute Brahim Diaz. Three minutes later, Rodrygo celebrated his 24th birthday in style by converting a stunning cross from Vazquez to make it 3-0.
