FA Cup Third Round: Liverpool and Manchester City Cruise Past Lower-League Opponents

Liverpool and Manchester City both secured comfortable victories in the FA Cup third round on Saturday, Jan. 11, 2025. Liverpool defeated fourth-tier Accrington Stanley 4-0 at Anfield, while Manchester City made light work of Salford City, winning 7-0.
Liverpool dominated their match against Accrington Stanley, with goals from Diogo Jota, Trent Alexander-Arnold, Jayden Danns, and Federico Chiesa sealing the victory. The Reds are currently leading both the Premier League and Champions League tables, and they also reached the semifinals of the English League Cup.
Manchester City, who are also chasing a quadruple this season, were equally impressive against Salford City. The Premier League champions scored seven goals without reply, sending a clear message to their rivals.
The FA Cup third round is traditionally a day of upsets, but this year, the Premier League giants were largely untroubled by their lower-league opponents. The only surprise of the day was Brentford's 1-0 home defeat against Championship strugglers Plymouth Argyle.
Other results from the FA Cup third round:
Chelsea 3-1 Nottingham Forest
Bournemouth 2-0 Leicester City
Brentford 0-1 Plymouth Argyle
The FA Cup fourth round draw will take place on Sunday, Jan. 12, 2025.
