Al Hilal Targets Manchester United’s Bruno Fernandes Ahead of Club World Cup

In a bold move, Saudi Pro League giants Al Hilal have initiated discussions to sign Manchester United’s star midfielder and captain, Bruno Fernandes, before the FIFA Club World Cup kicks off on June 14, 2025. According to reports from Transfer News Live, Al Hilal met with Fernandes’ agent and lawyer on May 5, 2025, aiming to secure the Portuguese maestro for the expanded 32-team tournament in the United States. The Saudi club, eager to make a statement in the global competition, sees Fernandes as a key addition to their squad.
Fernandes, 30, has been a pivotal figure for Manchester United, leading their Europa League campaign with 11 goal involvements and contributing 8 goals and 10 assists in the Premier League this season, despite the team’s struggles in 15th place. Al Hilal’s interest isn’t new—they reportedly made a massive offer in January 2024, which Fernandes turned down. However, Manchester United, now managed by Rúben Amorim, remain resolute in their stance, with no intention of letting their talisman go. Amorim considers Fernandes a “crucial piece” of his long-term project at Old Trafford, as confirmed by transfer expert Fabrizio Romano.
The timing of the talks raises eyebrows, as United face Athletic Club in the Europa League semi-finals this week. Fans and analysts are divided, with some urging Fernandes to stay and lead United’s rebuild, while others speculate on the allure of a lucrative Saudi move. As the summer transfer window approaches, Fernandes’ future remains a hot topic in football circles.
