Arsenal's pursuit of young Paraguayan left-back Diego León has been thwarted by Manchester United.

The Premier League rivals were both in talks with Cerro Porteño to secure the 17-year-old's signature, but United ultimately emerged victorious.
León has been a rising star in the Paraguayan league, impressing with his attacking flair and defensive solidity. His performances caught the attention of several top European clubs, including Arsenal and United.
Arsenal had been in advanced negotiations with Cerro Porteño, but United's late intervention proved decisive. The Red Devils reportedly offered a more lucrative package, convincing Cerro Porteño to accept their bid.
León is expected to join United in the summer of 2025, when he turns 18 and becomes eligible for a move under FIFA rules. He will likely be integrated into the club's youth system initially, with the potential to develop into a first-team regular in the future.
This is a significant blow for Arsenal, who were keen to bolster their defensive options with a promising young talent. The Gunners will now have to look elsewhere to find a left-back for the future.
