Transfer Update: Chelsea Signs Liam Delap

On May 30, Fabrizio Romano reported that Chelsea has signed Ipswich Town forward Liam Delap for £30 million. The agreement is in place, with Chelsea triggering the release clause in Delap's contract with Ipswich.
Manchester City will not exercise their buy-back option, and Delap has accepted the project at Chelsea. He is set to sign a long-term contract, influenced by Chelsea's manager, Enzo Maresca, and the club's participation in next season's Champions League.
According to The Athletic's DO, Chelsea and Ipswich have reached an agreement regarding Delap's transfer. The 22-year-old, an England U-21 international, had a £30 million release clause that became effective after Ipswich's relegation from the Premier League.
Personal terms between Chelsea and Delap are expected to be straightforward, and he is likely to move to Stamford Bridge.
Earlier reports indicated that several clubs, including Manchester United, Newcastle, Everton, Nottingham Forest, AC Milan, and Juventus, had been informed that Delap would be joining other teams, with Chelsea being the likely destination.
Ipswich signed Delap from Manchester City in July 2024, where he made only six appearances for the first team.
Additionally, Chelsea forward Mark Ghiu is of interest to Ipswich, who have been tracking the 19-year-old Spanish striker for some time. A loan move to Ipswich is a possibility.
